Who is Sandhills Agriculture?
The Mission of Sandhills Agricultural Tourism is to promote the efforts of farmers in marketing the products they produce, sell, or exchange for the purpose of creating revenue and tourism for the Sandhills.
Since late in 2002, volunteers from Richmond, Anson, Moore, and Montgomery Counties have been putting together a marketing plan to lure customers to the Sandhills to visit area farms. These volunteers formed the Sandhills Agritourism Task Force. The taskforce included members from area farms, tourism, news media, arts council, historical society, and the Cooperative Extension. With the help of donations and grants the Task Force grew to form what's now known as Sandhills Agricultural Tourism. A non-profit group to serve the sandhills area. These past volunteers interviewed over 60 farmers, then assembled the information, designed and printed 10,000 full color maps with photos, descriptions, and directions to the member farms.
Currently, Sandhills Agriculture has at its disposal a new website, signs, brochures, and another member map to help travelers rediscover our area farms. They have conducted an extensive customer survey, and are currently running an advertisment at the Sandhills Cinema in Southern Pines which airs approximately 8,800 times a month.
